On January 21, 2018, we celebrated a very auspicious day of Vasant Panchmi & Guruhari P.P. Shastriji Maharaj’s pragatyadin at Parsippany High School, NJ.

Vasant Panchmi has been part of the Hindu festival calendar for thousands of years and it’s also been celebrated as a very special festival within the Swaminarayan Sampraday as it marks the advent of the Shikshapatri and the birth of P.P. Shastriji Maharaj, who is the third spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the founder of the AksharPurshottam Swaminarayan Sanstha.

Other reasons why it is special in Swaminarayan Sampraday are the birthdays of P. Nishkulanand Swami and P. Brahmanand Swami, 2 of Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s 500 paramhans.

To celebrate these wonderfully divine occasions, we introduced the theme of January 2018 – Akshar Purushottam Upasana and this theme was attributed to the life and work of Guruhari P.P. Shastriji Maharaj in form of cultural samvad (Drama) which was performed by youths of Edison, NJ mandal of YDS. Shastriji Maharaj’s sadhuta was depicted through various speeches and cultural dramas which focused on how he made the impossible possible by enlightening the importance of Gunatit (Aksharbrahma) and the need/association of Akshar to understand the supremacy of Parabrahma Purshottam Narayan.

P. Ashishbhai from Clifton, NJ also shared his wisdom on Shikshapatri and importance of adhering to the Shikshapatri in today’s modern lifestyle.

To conclude the celebration, we watched a video gosthi of Guruhari Swamiji where he focused on the importance of remembering Bhagwan both in good & bad times and the 2 takeaway messages from Swamishri’s paravaani were:

  • To regularly attend weekly sabha and
  • To become son (Bhulku) of god

He also mentioned that “Aapne sau sukhi thava mate janamya chiye to bhagwan na dikra banine jiv-vu j che.”
